The Shire, Middle Earth, nr Oxford, UK Wednesday, 1:06 pm British 'Summer' Time Hello Reader, Recently, I read Allison Fellon's excellent, Write Your Story. As one of the reviewers said, this is not so much about writing for publication, but rather make sense of our own story by writing it down. In your own story, you are, after all, the hero. The hero always has an OBP (One Big Problem) to overcome, otherwise it would hold no interest for anyone, not least the author. The struggle to overcome the OBP can make the hero stronger, and once overcome, the hero might well find themselves changed. This confirms one of the major themes I identified in my own book, Practical People Engagement: which is Storytelling. Stories are a major medium in the way we engage people, even to the point of helping them see things differently. Last month, I delivered my one-day People Engagement Masterclass to a global team. Towards the end of the day, I told one of my favourite stories to the Masterclass... and found myself struggling to control my emotions(!). Not very professional, some might say! I thought on why it had affected me so much. Then I realised just how formative the story I told had become in my mission over the last few years. My mission is helping people like you, Reader, become positive outliers. I saw that my aim is to help you become someone more than the hero... The Shire, Middle Earth, nr Oxford, UK Thursday, 8:14 am Hello Reader, I Apologise... My apologies if you received a similar-headed email yesterday. It was not spam; rather it was an internal conflict in my subscription mailing software: ConvertKit, now named simply 'Kit.' The team at Kit worked on this yesterday-- and thank you to them--and at least found the root cause. So, what follows is what I really meant to send you. (Annoyingly, parts of it are time-sensitive.) Machine Education takes...
The Shire, about 5:40pm Hello Reader, Something happened at 1:30 am on Sunday, 4th August, that was of seismic significance to our family. Several of us are still in aftershock. Our grandson was born at 28 weeks, weighing a mere 1.125 kg. ceejayoz, CC BY 2.0 via Wikimedia Commons Mum and dad were staying at the John Radcliffe, a teaching hospital in Oxford, UK, when mum was taken down to the delivery room. Within minutes a baby boy was born. As I write, our new grandson is doing very well. He...
